Winold Reiss, born in Germany in 1886, came to America in 1916 and first visited the Blackfeet Indians in Glacier National Park in 1919. Reiss became captivated by the Native Americans. In 1927 he received a commission from the Great Northern Railway to paint the Indian people. His work appeared on calendars, posters, and the original images toured every major museum.
